So, I'm pretty sure the majority of Bachelor watchers were VERY unhappy with Ben being the Bachelor...and with who he proposed to....and with having to see his "hair" every week BUT...it seems the ABC Gods have taken pitty on us and decided to finally pick someone worth watching since Ally's season. Yes, we get to see Emily Maynard take a stab at finding real, true, microwaved, overcooked and overheated love. To those of you who aware of the success of the franchise, it's no surprise they're pretty much sticking to the same formula as every other season, but alas my interest is particularly peaked due to the simple fact that because Emily is attractive we are almost guaranteed equally attractive suitors. BUT, to be honest there are many reasons this show will be at the top of my watch list and here is why:
1. Emily has a good story and enough baggage for 2 trips around the world! I don't care what anyone says...your Bachelor or Bachelorette HAS TO HAVE A LEGIT SOB STORY. (and I don't mean getting dumped by the Gieko Caveman) Sure I enjoyed watching Ally's season...but it PALED compared to Jason Mesnik's single Dad gig. You felt sorry for him, in fact you really wanted little "Timmy"...(what was the kid's name again? it was a little boy, yea?) to have a mommy. (Did he have one??? I forgot) I don't know, but Mesnik needed a wife...and ABC did a great job of painting the struggling and heartbroken single Dad story. For Emily's season: It's not just your normal single mom struggle, there's some real tangible heartbreak in her not too distant past. Not only did the girl loose the love of her life while pregnant with his child, but then she hooked up with Douchebag Brad (the last person anyone wanted to see happy) We have reason to route for this gal.
2. Change of scenery: Yup...a different mansion and a different state. Thank goodness, because it isn't hard enough to believe ANYONE finds true love in California, much less Southern California. It's widely perceived: I don't know if people think it's something in the water down there, but successful relationships just don't bloom in LA's soil. Yes, even with gallons of wine, frequent trips to the beach and a tan. America tends to think if it's directly related to Hollywood, it's fake. Lets be honest...most of it is....BUT this season it's a different setting for this fairytale...
3. Emily isn't self conscious. (or at least doesn't appear to be) One thing that drives me nuts is the insecurity bit. We saw a lot of it on Ashley's season...she was a cute girl with a cute attitude, yet seemed to really dump on herself. Then you had Ben, not so cute...who acted like he was the Mac Daddy of Bachelors....but was as insecure as they come. (yes, take that opportunity to skinny dip with the model, because you may NEVER get to do that again in your lifetime ) Hopefully what we see here with Emily is a regular girl, who has an good idea of what she wants...and what she's looking for, doesn't second guess herself and doesn't take cr** from anyone. no bleh bleh...poor me... "walls up"...
4. I wont have to see Courtney naked with blacked out boobs and butt
5. I wont have to see Ben: naked, fully clothed, or with Courtney.
6. Fresh Meet for Bachelor Pad...and quite possibly some eye candy as the next Bachelor. Pretty Bachelorette, naturaly will have some handsome suitors....so We are all ready to see some major prince charmings, and from what I hear SOUTHERN PRince Charmings. Halleluah! So this means we have a pretty descent chance of getting a great Bachelor and some very solid Bachelor Pad candidates.
7. Nobody will have "A Girlfriend" back home. I could be wrong...but my understanding is everyone is OVER that wrench in the game, and all the men there should be certifiably single. You can check Reality Steve for the confirm this IS NOT gonna happen this season....but my guess is nobody is (OOPs)"attached" I'm really happy about this, because I feel like this has been one of the shows worst "twists". C'mon execs; you mean to tell me you you screen everything on these contestants right down to their jock strap size, but you didn't check a facebook status to read: "It's complicated" accompanied with a couple kissing as a default pic?!
8. No Racing Dates....yep, they're not going to rub salt in that wound. I'm glad to hear it. How cruel you were ABC... to make Emily ride in a race car...with Brad Wolmack nonetheless after what happened to Emily's former love and father of her child....and with Brad Wolmack
9. Emily is NOT a talker. She doesn't have lots to say, but what she does say is simple and to the point. I don't see her rambling on and on about nonsense like "chemistry and connectabilty" (yea Ben, that's NOT a word, it was even rejected by my spell check)...Emily is looking for a Father for her daughter and a potential partner not "Odd Masked Guy"..."The Cage Fighter" or the "Token Drunk". There's a good chance these "types" will get tossed the first night so we don't have to suffer through their antics at multiple rose ceremonies.
10. This season is going to be more like watching The Titanic than watching The Bachelor. You watch it over and over again, hoping it's not gonna sink...and guess what, the boat always sinks .Just like the movie, we love the drama and the over exaggerated love story. We're hopeful....I'm hopeful. I'm really pulling for Emily Maynard. She's a lot less annoying than other leads and I do really feel sorry for her. If anyone deserves to find love, it's her. So, it goes without saying Lets Hope that this time Rose hangs on to Jack....or Jack hangs on to the Rose...or what-ever (no pun intended of course) ;)
